Create a Feminine Face with Full Coverage Foundation – Makeup 101
Makeup and foundation is one of those highly talked about subjects amongst transgender women. We therefore wanted to discuss this topic, in our trans makeup 101 articles, and give you some useful information on choosing a good foundation for your makeup regime.
Let’s face it, pardon the pun, a good foundation is even more critical for transgender women in creating a flawless facial appearance as our skin and facial imperfections can be more complex to cover than natural born females.
I have personally tried and tested a lot of different cosmetic brands from high street foundations to more specialised and expensive products. It is generally true, for us trans girls, that most high street cosmetics tend to fall short of our needs.
How can a good foundation help me to achieve a flawless look?
Firstly, let me mention that as a trans women for some 30 years I have tried and tested a number of foundations. In my early days of transition, I struggled with makeup and it took a while to master a good makeup regime, this was after I took the plunge and had a professional makeover, so I recommend you find a good makeup artist and book yourself in for at least one session.
I quickly realised that there are a few foundations that stand head and shoulders above others, some are used for medical conditions such as eczema or acne and others are designed for transgender, crossdressers, actors and drag performers.
The advantages of using a good makeup base and foundation are quickly clear the first time you use them. You will find that they easily apply to the skin, stays put even on hot days, covers dark facial areas, covers wrinkles, and the overall skin coverage will give a flawless appearance without that ‘caked’ look.
I REGULARLY GET NICE COMMENTS ABOUT HOW GOOD MY MAKEUP LOOKS, THIS SINCE HAVING STARTED USING GOOD COSMETIC FOUNDATIONS.
When you apply your foundation you can squeeze a small amount onto the top of your hand and then apply it to your face using a good makeup foundation brush. Alternatively, with a crème based foundation such as, my current favourite, the kryolan dermacolor camouflage crème you can apply it to the face with your fingers and then use a brush or a Beautyblender sponge for blending which gives a smooth coverage (Dermablend cover crème comes with a small plastic spatula for pot to hand transfer).
I AM CURRENT HOOKED ON KRYOLAN COVER CREMES AS THEY GIVE ME COMPLETE CONFIDENCE IN MY LOOK, JUST APPLY AND ADD POWDER.
Makeup Tip: You should consider using a good primer under your foundation as this will give it even more staying power even on the hottest of days.
So, you are probably wondering what foundations you should try to achieve that flawless feminine appearance, below is the list of my 5 personal favourite products, the two ticked products I always keep in my makeup bag. Alongside the products below is a link to Amazon so you can buy them if you want.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer
I really like the MAC Pro range and have been using this concealer for about 5 years now with great success. Yes, it is a concealer but I use this just as I would any other foundation (with a good makeup brush). You either love or hate MAC products however you are doing yourself an injustice if you don’t give the pro longwear concealer/foundation at least a try out.

Clinique Even Better Makeup Foundation
I have used Clinique products on/off for many years as they tend to suit my skin type and give me a more natural makeup look and feel light on your skin. This is a liquid based foundation that works to even out skin tone and it does a good job at covering imperfections. I really like this ‘Even Better’ Clinique foundation and always try to keep a bottle at home.

Very useful article….I love it.
Please remind me about every new articles in future.
I have been using Dermablend foundation and fixing powder for about 12 years, in my opinion it is the best makeup for transgender women and girls, also tried Kryolan cover creme which covers all my wrinkles and lines on my face but it works out a bit expensive in my opinion so sticking with my trusted Dermablend.
I enjoyed reading your article and found it very useful, I am currently going through my MTF transition and researching makeup techniques which are helping me to gain confidence in my appearance. Joanna 🙂
